Day 16: August 10, 2014
Day 16: August 10, 2014
Tomorrow we
have our US consulate appointment…that’s what’s been on my mind all day! Tomorrow is the big day! So besides what been
going on between my ears, we also did some shopping. Today we went to Shamian Island, which is the
place that adoptive families use to stay while in Guangzhou which resulted in a
lot of tourist shops popping up. We
bought lots of things that we just couldn’t live without…hehe. It was fun just shopping for the fun of
it. We came to one shop, that another
adoptive family was at, and they told us that we needed to shop there because
the store owner (Judy) is a Christian.
When they told us that the lady just beamed from ear to ear. She was so excited to talk to us about Jesus
and how she reads her Bible every day.
She said that a taxi driver that came from the US became friends with
her and shared God’s love with her. She
regretted to say that she is the only Christian in her family and that it is
very hard. She was so kind that of
course we bought the last of our souvenirs from her. We stayed and talked to her and the other
family for a while and Judy was kind enough to buy us all ice cream from her
friends shop. It was so fun to run into
a Christian. She also inspired me to
ramp up my own Bible reading.
After
having our ice cream, we met up with our group at an “American”
restaurant. Heads up….don’t order
American food at those places. They
might look like food you are use to, but have some added Chinese
influences…hehe. We both ordered a
Chinese dish and enjoyed it before going back to the hotel for some rest time.
So Miley
napped a total of about 10 minutes in the hotel….I can only pray she naps
better when we get home. So since she
was already up, she “helped” me do (hopefully our last time) laundry in the
sink. When I say she helped, she really
just walked back in forth from the sink/toilet room to the shower area while
holding on to anything she could. She
absolutely thought that it was the funniest thing ever when I wrung the water
out of the clothes…silly girl.
For dinner
we met up with two other families in our group and went back to the same
restaurant we have enjoyed about 4 times now.
Hey we know exactly what to order here…except we couldn’t find the sweet
and sour pork so we had to call our guide and she translated for us over the
phone. It was a nice dinner, except
Miley kept scrapping the food onto her lap or spitting it out all
together. Our sweet little girl who
could sit for hours at a dinner table is starting to act like a normal 3 year
old…oh my…here we go!
After
dinner…you won’t believe what happened!
We walked toward the front of the restaurant and then we saw it…IT WAS
POURING DOWN RAIN!!! No, not a sprinkle
or a drizzle, but a downpour! No one had
an umbrella and we had to walk about 3 blocks back to the hotel…well what else
do we do…we ran for it! We did have a
hat for Miley, but she really isn’t a fan of it. We were soaked to the bone when we got back,
but hey we weren’t hot anymore!
So today’s
news about Miley…she is getting use to us now and is starting to see how far
she can push us….oh my. We did learn
that the Mandarin word for “no” is “boo” (correct me anyone who knows better
please). We also learned that she can be
easily distracted if needed EXCEPT if she is at a table and is hungry. In that case she likes to take the ceramic
bowls, tea cups, spoons, etc and stack them and bang them together….don’t worry
we are still having fun. So on one hand
I’m missing that quiet little girl we knew last week, but on the other hand I’m
so glad that is comfortable with us that she will act up.
Did I
mention that tomorrow we have her US consulate appointment??!!!!
Oh…I added some photos from breakfast. Miley and Ben love bananas and they had a
short breakfast date this morning. You
can see how thrilled they were eating near eachother…hehe.
