Day 13: August 7, 2014
Day 13: August 7, 2014
The city,
Guangzhou, is where the US Embassy is and is the last stop for all US adopted
families. The hotel, The China Motel,
Marriott, is full of other adopted families.
It has been so fun walking around and seeing other families in the same
part of their journey as we are. This
hotel caters to adopting families so well.
When we got into our room, a lady knocked on the door with a pink basket
with some Johnson’s baby soap, a little bear that is wearing a shirt that says
“Take me Home”, and a flyer explaining all the hotel and city offers for
children. This hotel is huge! It has a kids playroom and outdoor play area
with slides, tunnels, etc. It has a game room, gym, outdoor pool on the 4th
floor, tennis court, many restaunts and shops where anyone can buy snacks,
jewlry, nice clothing or even get your nails done to name a few things. I even think there are stairs that take you
to the subway from inside the hotel…but we haven’t explored that yet.
So after
breakfast (which was amazing), we met our friends and went off to find a park
that is near the hotel. To cross the
busy streets here, we have to go down the stairs on one side of street, going
underground and then follow the signs to the other side of the street. It’s like another city under the roads! By the time we made it to the park, we were
already drenched in sweat. We stayed
there for about an hour and then decided to go back to the hotel for a
swim. I’m hoping to go back to the part
because there was so much we didn’t get to see.
There were folk musician and dancers all over and it seems that the
people who participate in these hobbies are retired and enjoying their life
with friends and their community. There
were paddle and motor boats in rivers that were full of the biggest koi I’ve
ever seen!
The pool
was much needed after our morning stroll or “sweat fest” in the park. Miley just loves the water! She splashes around and screams with delight. I can’t wait to take her to our neighborhood
pool back home. I’m so amazed at how she
is fitting right in with our family. She
is another Bostrom kid, but I cannot wait to see all four of our kids together
finally! I have really enjoyed getting
to talk to the kids on skype and hearing them talk to their sister. They are so excited to meet her!
I haven’t
written much about Miley’s personality and I need to. She has been incredibly easy to bond to. She is happy and calm most of the time. It seems like she has an internal peace that
I dream of having. She is caring and
loving toward Jeff and I, but especially to her lovies. She has acquired quite of collection of
stuffed animals while on this trip with us.
(Yes we are spoiling her already…but honestly who could resist this
face!) It is precious watching her with
them. Miley will hug and kiss them and
then rock them and even sing to them.
Those are learned traits that I have no doubt she was taught in the
orphanage. It gives Jeff and I such a
peace to know that she was loved on while we couldn’t. She must have been rocked, cuddled, and sang
to by her foster mother and other nannies.
As I’ve been writing, Miley has been in her crib “resting”. It took her about an hour to fall asleep
because she was caring for her lovies instead.
She was busy putting them to bed.
She is such a little mother already!
Again, I can’t wait to see how our kids play together especially Piper
and Miley. It seems like the girls will
have lots in common! God is so
good! We doubted so many times our
decision to adopt our Miley girl, but so excited that we said yes to her! So far it feels seamless. I’m sure we have a long road ahead of us
before our family with be fully bonded, but this is an amazing start!
While Miley
naps, Jeff has been exploring the cities.
Today during his walks it actually started to thunder storm. He made it back right before it poured
rain.
Tomorrow is
Miley’s doctor’s appointment. The doctor
has to verify that the child that we have matches her referral papers and that
she doesn’t have any communicable diseases that the US doesn’t like. It should be just fine.
